RESIDENTS and community groups in Dawlish are being asked if they would like to get involved in keeping the town clean.

Last year, Dawlish Town Council successfully applied for funding and obtained £1,400 from the Tidy Teignbridge Scheme.

This led to the installation of three storage boxes containing litter picking in the town.

These have been placed at Cockwood, for residents, and at Gatehouse and Westcliff primary schools.

The town council is now waiting for permission to site a box at Boat Cove which can be used by the Dawlish Against Plastic volunteers.

Now the town council has been asked if it would like to apply to the scheme again.

And it has asked for ideas the council can consider to put forward for an application.

Funding can cover: non-mechanical cleaning equipment; staff costs for additional cleaning work; community awareness and clean up action days; graffiti removal and litter picks.

Money can also be used for screening works and materials, additional training and promotional materials.

Not covered by the funding are cleaning activities already being carried out by the town council or Teignbridge District Council, mechanical equipment, street litter or dog waste bins and the purchase of weed killing chemicals or spraying equipment.
