St John’s Church in the sleepy village of Luton, is in its ninth year of hosting artists as part of the Devon Open Studio Event.
In a successful symbiotic relationship between church, community and artist, this ‘Little church with a Big Heart’ will display painting, photography, sculpture and mixed media work by artists Angie Carter-Woodwark, Vicki Gardner and Luci Coles.
In return the artists donate a piece of work as a raffle prize to raise church funds and visitors are tempted into the neighbouring Old School Room for what are arguably some of the best home-made cakes in the county. It is well worth a visit.
Angie Carter-Woodwark paints in oil and watercolour with pen. Her vibrant and atmospheric landscapes invite you into a world of colour and emotion.
Multi award winning photographer Vicki Gardner’s close-up floral images contrast with her magical pinhole landscapes.
Sculptor and mixed media artist Luci Coles is showing a curious array of contemporary ceramic pieces and drawing based collage exploring our beginnings and place in the world.
