SEA scouts have been helping produce Christmas hampers for a Teignbridge charity.
The River Teign Sea Scouts put together an ‘incredible’ 73 Christmas hampers, giving HITS foodbank a head start at its busiest time of the year.
David Cox, chairman of HITS Foodbank said: ‘It’s going to be a cold and tough winter for many families. Thanks to the enthusiastic work of the Sea Scouts, HITS will be able to bring a little joy this Christmas.’
Trisha Kirby, HITS treasurer said: ‘HITS hopes to provide over 500 Christmas Hampers, to be delivered directly by HITS or via other charities.
‘It’s been a great help from the Sea Scouts.’
HITS is asking local people to help bring festive cheer to families struggling this Christmas by donating festive food items to the foodbank at collection points at Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi, Sainsbury’s or one of many local churches.
Melissa Middleton at the Whistlestop cafe is collecting Christmas presents for children under 12.
David explained: ‘For some children, these Christmas presents will be their only treat this Christmas.
‘Local people facing bleak times this Christmas will be given food hampers containing mince pies, puddings, tinned ham, chocolates and other festive treats.’
Frontline care professionals and other community support workers, who are able to identify people in crisis can refer them for a Christmas Hamper.
