STOVER Canal open weekend ‘went really well’, with around 1,000 people coming to visit over the two days, according to Stover Trust committee member Rob Harris.
The trust had their own exhibit, with models of the canal and details of the history of the Templer family.
Other exhibitors included the Torbay Amateur Radio Society, which broadcast across the country from the event.
Many people came and walked, or cycled, along the new pathway that opened earlier in the year.
The trust thanked Tesco, Sibelco and Janette Parker for all their efforts in making the weekend possible.
The event comes at the end of a unique and important restoration project on the graving dock lock, which was once used to transport clay from Bovey Basin and Dartmoor.
Future restoration plans include constructing an earth bank with revetment faces at the southern end of the basin, and removing the silt and gravel from the bed of the basin with a view to re-watering.
As well as conducting similar work to the lock at Teigngrace and Teignbridge, the trust is working towards re-watering the lower stretch of the canal from Teignbridge to Jetty Marsh.
