TAKEAWAY food in Newton Abbot has been served a major upgrade as home delivery service Uber Eats launches in the town.
Following the success of the government’s Eat-out-to-help-out scheme, those left with a craving for the culinary good-life can now order a range of different takeaways from the comfort of home.
Uber Eats uses a team of couriers who offer a delivery service between restaurants and the public.
Orders are made through a mobile app and are collected by courier.
A number of eateries have already signed up to the service, from well-known chains like Subway sandwiches to independent eateries, such as, ‘Meat59’ – a gourmet burger restaurant in Newton Abbot.
Jess Stephen, manager of Meat59, said the team were ‘really excited’ to be on board with Uber Eats following a busy August, and were looking forward to welcoming new and old customers alike for the new delivery option.
Manager Jess said: ‘We want to thank all of our customers for their support so far!
‘It has been a crazy and strange “new normal” for everyone involved.’
She added: ‘We’re excited to now be on board with Uber eats, bringing Meat59 straight to your door!’
Toussaint Wattinne, general manager of Uber Eats in the UK, said: ‘We are really excited to be launching in Newton Abbott and Paignton, firstly with McDonald’s and KFC, and a host of local restaurants joining in the coming weeks.
‘As the nation’s lockdown slowly beings to lift, we hope to make it even easier for local residents to enjoy a variety of delicious food both comfortably and safely.’
Uber Eats has introduced measures to help ensure that every courier can access the PPE they need for free to help keep them safe when they deliver with Uber Eats.
As well as providing free sanitising products, Uber Eats is providing couriers with over one million masks.
To get a ‘Pizza the action’ customers will need to download the Uber Eats mobile app, which can be downloaded from:
Once the app is downloaded it will ask for your location.
The restaurants that are openand serving food will be clearly displayed. Especially hungry customers will take comfort in knowing that food deliveries are tracked at every stage of the order - from pan to plate.
