FIREFIGHTER Brett Easterbrook is in training for a fund-raising marathon.

Brett, the crew manager at Buckfastleigh fire station, will be taking part in the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon which is raising money for motor neurone disease.

Station colleagues said: ‘Our very own Brett is running the marathon to raise money to fight the cruel and indiscriminate MND.

‘The service has lost some dear friends to MND the likes of firefighter Eddy Forbes who was the life and soul of any gathering and is sadly missed by so many.

‘As a station we are sponsoring Brett by supplying all his equipment that he will need to train for the marathon.

‘You too can help by visiting his just giving page, well we say his but he’s not clever enough to set the page up so it’s in his daughters name, and give what you can to help eradicate this evil disease once and for all.’

Brett’s efforts are also in memory of Buckfastleigh man Shawn Tubby who died recently and was diagnosed with the disease aged 52.

Rob Burrow was a rugby league player who was diagnosed with the incurable disease in 2019.

Since then, he has tirelessly campaigned and raised money to support the MND community.

The lifespan of someone diagnosed with MND is two to five years but it kills one third within a year and more than half within two years.

The Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon will be taking place on May 14, inspired by former Leeds Rhinos captain, Kevin Sinfield OBE, and his fundraising challenges in recent years in support of his friend and team mate Rob Burrow.
