BEACHES across Devon, including several in Teignbridge, have been hit with sewage alerts following yesterday’s heavy rain.

Teignmouth Holcombe and Dawlish Town beaches are among the 29 spots identified by charity Surfers Against Sewage’s interactive sewage alert map.

This comes after heavy rain on Monday, October 7, which saw the Met Office issue a yellow weather warning.

Sewage spillage into waterways is common after heavy rain as storm overflows are used to prevent drains becoming overwhelmed.
