A DEATH on the rail track at Dawlish has been confirmed this afternoon (mon) by British Transport Police.

Officers and paramedics were called to the station just before 12.15pm after reports of a body on the track.

Services between Exeter and Newton Abbot were immediately suspended while the emergency services dealt with the tragedy.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: ‘Sadly a person has died at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.’

The South Devon coroner will be informed of the death and an inquest will open soon to take formal evidence of identity.

No details of the sex of the dead person have yet been released.
