A REFRESHER course in working from height was on the cards for Newton Abbot’s firefighters at their latest training night.
The crew welcomed colleagues from Torquay Fire Station, who brought their Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP), for a drill night.
The training allowed the crew, especially its newer members, the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the ALP and its capabilities.
Being able to reach heights of around 34 metres, the ALP is a vital tool available to the fire service, capable of delivering vast quantities of water from above.
‘The visit allows the incident commanders on station a better chance to understand the capabilities and limitations of the ALP, so that they can consider additional options when tackling fires in the future’ a spokesperson for Newton Abbot Fire Station said.
‘The crew of Newton Abbot Fire Station would like to thank Torquay Fire Station once again for showing us around your ALP, and I'm sure it won't be long before we see you out and about again on another callout’ the spokesperson added.
