A PERSON has been taken to hospital after a fire at a Devon hotel.

Fire crews were called to reports of the blaze in Paignton just before 11pm on Tuesday, September 24.

Upon arrival crew from Paignton and Torquay saw smoke and flames issuing from the roof space of a hotel in the Roundham with Hyde area.

With the fire spreading to an adjacent building, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service requested further help from several other stations, including Newton Abbot and Teignmouth.

One person was treated at the scene by paramedics and then taken to hospital, the service said. 

The fire was extinguished using six breathing apparatus wearers, three hose reel jets, four safety jets, four covering jets, an aerial ladder platform, positive pressure ventilation fans, gas monitors and thermal imaging cameras.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
